Manos, Pottery Studio
While the Magnolia is in full bloom, this is a step-by-step peek into the clay-tinted world of Karin Eriksson. Her beautiful pottery, deceitfully simple, is even more admirable when all the stages of the process come to light. We’ve captured the five day production cycle carefully – and still had to leave out parts. And, yes, we cheated. Karin prepared all the stages beforehand (which to us was even more impressive) to lead us through it in a single day. Karin’s inspiring workshop doubles as a retail space – a must stop if you’re in town. Sanna & Oscar, the Homegrown Swedes.

Lumen from Minimalissimo by Carl MH Barenbrug

Hungarian born Akos Major, currently residing in Vienna, is a freelance graphic designer and amateurphotographer. However, there is nothing amateur about this stunning photographic series entitled Lumen.
Although I’m perfectly aware the summer time season is upon us, I was not prepared to wait a further six months before featuring this beautifully minimal winter series. Major looks to capture and display the spiritual and emotive textures that he sees in muted and often monotone landscapes across northern Europe.
Although I feel Lumen is a wonderful representation of Major’s photography work, his exemplary portfolio will surely not disappoint. What do you think?

‘Rice’ dinnerware collection by Studio Laura Strasser for JIA Inc. (HK)

'Rice' dinnerware collection by Studio Laura Strasser for JIA Inc.
A young German designer and founder of her namesake studio Laura Strasser has developed this delicate, milky-white set of porcelaine dinnerware in collaboration with a Hong Kong-based manufacturer JIA Inc.. Named after the century-old, traditional Chinese rice grain technique employed in its production process, ‘Rice’ features a subtle, translucent cut-out pattern reminiscent of rice grains.

More about the collection:

‘Rice grain porcelain is a traditional Chinese porcelain technique dating back to the Ming dynasty. (A.D. 1368). It is characterized by a refined and semi translucent finish. Adopting this traditional craftsmanship, RICE plays with the contrast between glazed and un-glazes finishes to create a set of daily dinnerware with a delicate sophistication.’

‘Ike’ stool by Studio Dreimann (DE)

Detail view of 'Ike' stools by Studio Dreimann

Hannover-based design practice Studio Dreimann, whose elegant and functional coffee table‘Little Ben’ was featured on Dailytonic in August last year, have recently unveiled their next product, similarly simple and refined stool, ‘Ike’. Made of circular, polished oak seat and a split steel pipe which serves as a leg of the design, the height-adjustable ‘Ike’ has been launched atGreenhouse during this year’s edition of Stockholm Furniture Fair.

More about the design:

‘The idea for the construction of this handy, simple stool “Ike” was a bursted pipe. The foot is a steel pipe which is cut three times and then bent by a machine. The seat is made from oak and then screwed with a thread, a small hole allows to rotate the seat rapidly up and down with your finger. A challenge during the bending process was to get the right proportions between the foot and the seat in line and still guarantee stability.’

Boiacca

Paolo Lucidi and Luca Pevere of LucidiPevere Design Studio have created Boiacca, a beautiful dining table forKristalia. Made entirely of cement, the piece carries a strong architectural identity. Designers took the material to its absolute limit, striving to sustain a minimal form and back it up with superior structural integrity.

The fulcrum of the project are the four legs which, as if they were molded in plastic, thanks to the patient work of “material reduction” and the use of special steel inserts, reach a great thinness. In addiction to these, the 13 mm thick top, as well concrete, which is perfectly flat with high resistance to bending.

I really like the contrast between the slick and elegant form of the table and the roughness of the material. The piece is element-resistant and can be used both indoors and outdoors.

Balloon Lamp

Created by Spanish designers CrousCalogero for Estiluz, the Balloon Lamp is a very simple, clean and playful lighting fixture, pleasing children and adults alike.
Emitting a soft and warm light, the lamp’s shade is made of satinized polyethylene, a translucent material that hides an energy saving fluorescent bulb. A thin red cable hangs subtly from the shade, serving as a switch in the wall version (a ceiling option is also available).
It’s the perfect fixture for a young one’s room, but also for a couple’s alcove or a modern living room. Seeing it in person immediately made me smile (and desire one for myself)!
