'B25' by cate&nelson for blå station
all images courtesy of cate&nelson
sweden-based design studio cate&nelson were commissioned by swedish furniture manufacturer blå station
to design a product on the occasion of the company's 25th anniversary. their brief asked that they base this
furniture piece on the language of design that characterized blå station in its early days -
including the round birch-wood ring and natural tanned leather from tärnsjö tannery.
front view
the result is 'B25', an easy chair constructed from compression-moulded birch finished with a surface of
ash veneer and a seat of upholstered polyether foam. the chair builds on this idea of furniture as members of a family,
creating not just a a single item but a series or group of objects based on the same idea and using the same components.
demonstrating the chair's use
'B25' references the börge lindau’s oblado series which blå station first manufactured in 1986,
whose iconic round ring in birch is used in this contemporary take. the covered back of 'B25'
assumes its intended shape once it is placed within the ring.
'B25' was recently presented at the 2011 stockholm furniture fair.

inga sempe: oesterlen chair and table for gaersnaes
österlen chair
here is a sneak preview of the österlen chair and table designed by inga sempe for gärsnäs,
to be presented during the stockholm furniture fair from 8 to 12 feb. 2011.
the recessed surfaces along the chair's back frame are designed to create a more comfortable backrest.
these cuts are repeated throughout the chair, acting both functionally to form the wood joints
and adding visual interest to the piece.
