Product news: the seat of this chair by Venetian designer Luca Nichetto is made of folded felt.

Called Motek, the design by Stockholm-based Luca Nichetto for Italian brand Cassina is pressure-moulded to make it rigid enough to support a person's weight without losing the lightweight qualities of the fabric.

Origami-inspired folds give extra support to the structure.

The design comes with wooden or steel legs and there's also a version upholstered in leather.

Nichetto presented the chair at the Salone Internazionale del Mobile in Milan last month, where he also showed cabinets carved with geometric patterns for Casamania and a TV-like lamp for Foscarini - see all design by Luca Nichetto.

Here's some more information from Luca Nichetto:

The inspiration behind Motek chair is a sheet of paper, which is flexible and lightweight by its very nature. Originally, a sheet of paper cannot bear weights, but the Japanese art of origami – which, with a series of folds, creates forms and structures that can support weights – the same sheet takes on a new lease of life.
Thanks to a new technology for Cassina, such as pressure molding, a sheet of felt is folded, which will bring the necessary rigidity to the body of the chair for it to support weights without losing the lightness of the original material.

In this project, the search for details and the experimentation with materials typical of the collaboration between Nichetto and Cassina led to a felt version of the chair, which comes in three different shades, as well as to a leather version, where the seams highlight the folds characterizing the aesthetics of the seat.
The adaptability to the different consumers’ tastes is yet another feature sought by Nichetto for Motek, which was obtained through a series of combinations of structure, legs and body.

桌角台灯:UGOL Lamp

jasper morrison: fionda for mattiazzi

having bought a camping chair in japan for interior use, but finding the aluminium 'X' bars in the front and back of the frame a bit uncomfortable,
jasper morrison decided to create one that was made specifically for the indoors by removing the 'X's. thus 'fionda' (meaning 'sling' in italian) was born.
the british designer has perfected the wooden joints of the design so that they result in a light and strong frame, which can be stacked horizontally
when the canvas covers which form the seats are taken-off. produced by italian company mattiazzi, 'fionda' comes in two models,
a dining and lounge version, accompanied by a stackable table.

'I am attracted to the language of camping and campaign furniture. it's something about the lightness of structure and required efficiency
in achieving something comfortable…' - jasper morrison

the 'fionda' chair takes its name from the canvas sling which forms the seat--in italian 'fionda' means sling

Mum & Co

Mum & Co

Mum & Co is a small family run fashion brand, designing exquisite and heartwarming handmade leather goods. Recently established, Mum & Co produce a range of minimalist backpacks and cases, each using natural leather, for that touchy-feely vibe, which suits this brand so very well.

The shapes, colours, textures and detail of each of piece are simply wonderful. For instance, Backpack I is similar to those once used by London couriers. Fastened on with an adjustable-length vintage leather strap, it also has an outer pocket for keys and various other accessories. Adjustable straps allow for a precise fit and measures 270 x 430 x 120 mm. This one, I would love for myself.

Backpack II in natural and black exudes elegance. It is designed to replace the classic handbag for something more comfortable, regardless of what you may be wearing. The interior also has a soft cotton lining, magnetic buckles and measures 290 x 400 x 60 mm.

I have no doubt this brand will go from strength to strength, and I’ll be keeping an eye on any new designs.
